Week 6 - Autumn Term

We have had a great week this week in Chestnut Class! The children have all worked hard.

In English the class have been exploring diary writing. The children have explored the features of a diary entry and have been enjoying lots of role play. Next week, they will be applying all the features they have looked at to their own diary entry.

In maths this week we have been looking at finding the difference using the bar model.

In science we have continued to explore healthy living. This week we focused on vaccinations. The children worked hard to understand lots of new terminology.

I’d like to thank all of you who have volunteered so far to help with our Geography walk on Monday. We still are looking for a few more volunteers so if you are interested, please email the class email:

The children are looking forward to making ceramic poppies with  Miss Glyde in the coming weeks.

They should all be proud of the way they have worked this week. I hope you all enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Week 5 - Autumn Term

We have had a fantastic week this week in Chestnut Class! We have had two lovely supply teachers and enjoyed lots of fun lessons.

In English the class have been exploring advertisement. The children have continued exploring the features of persuasive text this week. They have all produced remarkable final outcomes in the style of an advert which have been put on display to celebrate their efforts.

In maths this week we have been looking at addition and number bonds. The children have been using a method we call the cherry model. We finished the week looking at subtraction and will begin to explore this in greater detail next week.

In science this week we looked at germs. The children carried out an experiment to see how germs spread using glitter to represent the germs. The class concluded that germs could spread in a variety of ways and the best way to get rid of them is to wash their hand thoroughly with soap and warm water.

I’d like to thank you all for your donations to this year's harvest. The food will be collected next week and will be greatly appreciated by those at Wallingford Food Bank.

For those of you wishing to order your child’s personalised Christmas cards your orders will need to be back in school as soon as possible to ensure that you receive your order in time for December. The money and your design can be sent in with your child in the plastic wallet provided.

We look forward to welcoming back Mrs Thomas next week. I wish you all a well-deserved restful weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Glyde and Mrs Hadfield.

Week 3 - Autumn Term

We have had a good week this week in Chestnut Class! All the children have been working hard.

In English the class have been exploring instruction texts. This week the children wrote their own recipes on how to make a marvellous smoothie. The class then followed their instructions to make their own smoothies. The children really enjoyed using the computers to type up their instructions. They all did an amazing job!

In Music over the past two weeks, we have been exploring myths, including the myth of the Loch Ness Monster. We have been learning some chants and performing them using body percussion to keep the rhythm and beat. This week, we also added some instruments to our performance.

In Maths we have been using our knowledge of number bonds to explore the most efficient method of adding three numbers.

Next week we will begin looking at advertisement in literacy and the children will make adverts for their product. If you have any adverts at home that we may look at in class, please sent them in with your child.

We have had a very busy first week in Chestnut Class!

In English we have been doing lots of fun activities. We have recapped what we were taught in year 1 and have lots of fun things planned for the rest of term including writing instructions, making adverts and writing diaries.

In line with this term’s topic, we have been studying the illustrator Sir Quentin Blake. The children have thoroughly enjoyed drawing in his style and have produced some fabulous Willy Wonka drawings.
