If you can find a stick or a wooden spoon encourage your child to explore the outdoor or indoor area and discover how different sounds are made by tapping, stroking and banging with their beaters. This could be a wooden door, a tree, a wire fence, a metal pan, plastic toys, teddies, really whatever you have to hand. Talk about how each item sounds, does it sound different if you stroke it or tap it? Can you make a louder or quieter sound? Can they tap it quickly or slowly? If you play the item, can the child describe how you are playing it?
You can then be a "conductor" and raise a beater high in the air to signal the children to play loudly and lower it to signal playing softly.
