Elm Class

Welcome to Elm - Reception/Year 1

Welcome to Elm Class! Your Class Teacher is Mr Newman.  We have the lovely Mrs Badenhorst  who will be working with us.

If you need to contact school for urgent matters please email the office. If you need to contact me for other enquiries you can email me via our class email at: elm@benson.oxon.sch.uk. The class e-mail will be checked regularly and I will aim to reply as soon as I am able.

Term 5

This term our topic is SPLASH!

We will be exploring and investigating water through Art and Science experiments, attempting to answer the questions How much rain falls in one week and How quickly does ice melt?

In Literacy we are starting the term looking at poetry, writing and performing our own poems, before moving on to stories about The Lighthouse Keeper by Rhonda and David Armitage. We will then finish up with two weeks on report writing about some of the science experiments we have performed.

For our DT this term, we are going to design and make zipwire baskets, just like the one in The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.

As Historians, we will be learning about the history of Lighthouses, Grace Darling and the start of the RNLI.

In Maths, we will the learning more about addition and subtraction as well as place value of numbers to 20 (R) and 100 (Yr1). We will also learn about position and directions; very important skills for a sailor!

PE this term is on Friday. Please come to school in your PE Kits.
