Friday 27th November
Good morning guys!
In maths today, we'll be using our knowledge of fractions to help us use a fraction to find a whole. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/480708847 and then complete the sheet below.
Now that we've got our winter themed poems, we're going to be creating some art to go with them. Using materials you have at home, create a picture which matches the ideas you used in your poem. Remember that you were aiming to create a mood with your poem so your art needs to match it.
Today I have a science experiment for you which involves tricking your brain and how it sees. You can find out more about it on the PDF below called Colour Mixing Spinner.
Have a fab weekend!
Thursday 26th November
In maths today, we'll be learning about finding a fraction of an amount. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/480708541 and then complete the sheet below.
We'll be writing our winter poems in literacy today. Use the ideas from your mindmap yesterday and write a poem about what winter means to you. Your poem should be three stanzas (paragraphs) and it needs to create a feeling about winter- this could be a positive feeling with description about the sparkling snow or warm hot chocolates or a negative feeling with description about the grey, slushy snow or bare trees. Try to use a simile, metaphor or some personification in your poem too.
In history this afternoon, we'll be looking at the Home Front and the role of women towards the war effort. Look at the examples of posters from World War 2 below. These posters were aimed at persuading people- often women- to help towards winning the war. Look at the different ways women were encouraged to help then create your own poster persuading women to help too.
Wednesday 25th November
In maths today, we'll be having a second go at dividing fractions by integers. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/480707655 to recap our learning yesterday and then complete the sheet below. You can also find a challenge sheet to complete if you'd like to.
In literacy, we're going to create some winter poetry. What do you think of when you think of winter? Create a mindmap of what winter reminds you of. Then, choose three things to focus on (I would choose snow, Christmas and spending time with friends and family for example) and add more to those sections of the mindmap- what feelings do they create? How could you describe them? Can you use a simile or a metaphor when you do?
In RE this afternoon, we'll be starting to learn about the Incarnation. This is the Christian belief that Jesus was not just the son of God but was God in human form. Look carefully at the quotes about Jesus from the Bible below. For each one, decide if it's evidence that Jesus was divine (of or like a god) or human and sort them. What does the evidence tell you? Does the Bible suggest Jesus was human or divine?
Tuesday 24th November
Good morning! I hope you're having a fab start to your week.
In maths this morning, we're looking at dividing a fraction by an integer (a whole number). Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/476254074 and then complete the sheet below. Like yesterday, this will be new learning for us so if you need any help, please do email me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Practise your super SPaG skills using the sheet below.
In music this afternoon, Mrs Comber-Lye and the rest of the class will be thinking more about music in World War 2. Music during this time was incredibly important for people because it kept up their spirits and kept them feeling happy during the hard times of the war. Choose a singer or band who makes you feel happy and create a poster about them.
Who are they?
What interesting facts about them can you include?
Which of their songs do you like the most? Why?
Why do you like this singer/band?
Monday 23rd November
Good morning guys! Hope you had a lovely weekend.
In maths today, we'll be starting to look at multiplying pairs of fractions. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/476253821 and then complete the sheet below. This is most likely a new piece of learning for you so if you do need any more help with it, please email me on the class email (email@example.com) and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Practise your super SPaG skills using the sheet below.
For art this afternoon, I'd like you to create a piece of art (you can choose if its a sketch, painting or you use another medium) about World War 2. It's entirely your choice what you choose to do but your art should reflect something you know about World War 2. I'd love to see your art so please email it to the class email if you're happy to share it!
Friday 20th November
Good morning and happy Friday!
In maths today, we'll be doing an investigation. Imagine you have four bags and each bag contains different numbers. One bag has 1s, one bag has 3s, one bag has 5s and the final bag has 7s. Using only ten of the numbers from the bags, how many times can you make 37?
Practise your SPaG skills using the sheet below.
I have a science experiment for you today. You can find out more about it on the sheet below called How to Grow a Rainbow.
Have a fab weekend!
Thursday 19th November
Good morning guys! I hope you're having a fab week.
Today in maths, I'd like you to recap adding and subtracting fractions and practise doing both in one lesson. Watch the video here to remind you https://vimeo.com/475425864 and then complete the sheet below.
As usual, keep sharpening your SPaG skills with the SPaG sheet.
In history this afternoon, we'll be looking at evacuation: when children were sent to the countryside during World War 2. Read through the PowerPoint below to find out more then read the different extracts about evacuation. Do you think evacuation was a good or a bad thing? Explain your answer by referring to the extracts.
Wednesday 18th November
Today in maths, we'll be looking at multiplying fractions by integers (whole numbers). Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/475426110 and then complete the sheet below.
Practise your SPaG skills using today's sheet.
In PSHCE this afternoon, we'll be talking about friendships and thinking about how we can solve friendship problems. Read through the friendship problems on the sheet below, choose 3 and write the advice you would give to someone dealing with that problem.
Tuesday 17th November
Good morning! I hope you've had a lovely start to your week.
In maths today, we'll be looking at subtracting fractions. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/475425649 and then complete the sheet below.
Practise your SPaG skills with the usual sheet below.
Music (like Hey, Mr Miller which we've started listening to in school) during World War 2 was very important because of how it made people feel. Listen to the different songs from the 1940s here https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/history-ks2-world-war-2-clips-ww2-songs-index/zbg9gwx Rank them in order from which you like the most to the least and explain your choices.
Monday 16th November
In maths today, we'll be looking at adding fractions. Watch the video here https://vimeo.com/470094960 and then complete the sheet below.
Practise your SPaG skills today by answering the questions.
For art this afternoon, look at the photo below of evacuees (children sent to live in the country during World War 2) and use a pen to recreate it in the style of Henry Moore.
