Week 2 - 30/03/20
For those starting Reception in September, I want you to think about the the first sound in your name, e.g. 'f' for Fiona. Throughout the week, how many other words can you think of that start with the same sound?
Can you make a poster to show all the words you thought of and draw all of the objects that start with that letter sound? Add to it through the week when you find more words!
The children find it really funny if you change the first sound e.g saying 'sap' instead of 'map' and it helps them to hear the first sound in words. Have fun being silly and changing the first sound to work out if a word starts with the same letter sound as their name :)
Week 1 - 23/03/20
For phonics this week, it would be great to practice rhyme with the children. It is a very difficult concept to master, and the more practice they do the better! Sing lots of nursery rhymes and ask the children to only sing the rhyming word (e.g. twinkle twinkle little star, humpty dumpty). Read stories with rhymes - Julia Donaldson is great for this. Keep reading the same stories so that the children become familiar with the rhyme and can help you read the story by filling in the rhyming words.
