What do I eat?

Discuss what the animals you are learning about, eat. Do all animals eat meat? Which animals don’t?

Explain that we can sort animals into groups based on what they eat and that there are special words to describe an animals diet – carnivore, herbivore and omnivore.

Use the power points to explore the meaning of these words and find out which woodland animals are carnivores/ herbivores/ omnivores.

Discuss the features that make animals suitable for their diet e.g. carnivores have sharp claws and teeth. What are we?

You could make a chart to show which woodland animals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores by dividing a piece of paper into three sections and labelling with the words. Ask your child to draw the animals into the correct part or complete the sorting activity below.
