River Exploration

As part of our life cycles topic in science, we had a visit from Ceri from the Chiltern chalk streams project to talk about the abundance of wildlife we find in our chalk streams and why they are so important to our environment. The children were able to classify different types of wildlife from the samples Ceri brought in to the classroom and they made some impressive finds!

Drama

Our English topic is based around the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. We thought about how the peanut shellers in Mr Salts factory would have felt to have found a golden ticket and then given it to Veruca Salt, then role played an interview. The children thought up questions and responses and created their own chat shows!

Science

The children used pulleys and weights to test how the pulley system can affect how easy it is to lift different sizes of weights. They used newton metres to measure and recorded their findings.

Science - Forces

We are learning about forces this term. In our first lesson we thought about contact forces and how these affected items that they acted upon. We used PE equipment and acted out some freeze frames to demonstrate pushing and pulling, can you guess which picture shows which force?

Victorian day

We had a Victorian day so the children could experience some of what school was like in Victorian times, from trying to write neatly with chalk, chanting times tables, marching and making Victorian toys, we had a fun filled day. Some of the children were great sports and tried on our dunces hat!

We also had a visit from a Penny Farthing and Mr Timms demonstrated how to ride it.

Stew and Dumplings

In DT this term we made stew and dumplings. The children peeled and grated the veg and then combined ingredients to make some dumplings. They added their ingredients to slow cookers and enjoyed the result which was a delicious stew!. Some budding masterchefs in the class ....

Space

Our topic this term is Earth and Space. On our topic launch day we all turned into astronauts for the day, who knows where this topic will take us next!

Super Science!

This term our science topic is materials and their properties. We have been making cups to try and keep water warm, deciding which materials would be the best insulators.

We have also been looking at mixtures and thinking about the different ways we could separate different types of mixtures. We investigated using evaporation, magnetism, sieving and decanting. We also looked at how rust can change metal over time and looked at three different solutions and the effects they had on the metal when left for a week.
