Special Educational Needs

At Benson CofE Primary we are committed to inclusion and providing children with the support they need to meet their full potential. Some children will have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), which means that they may require some extra support above and beyond the school curriculum lessons in order to enhance their learning and development. This may be in the form of an intervention programme or extra support or resources in the classroom.

We comply with the requirements outlined in the Special Needs Code of Practice (2014) in the identification and monitoring of children with SEND (further information can be found in our SEND policy an SEND information report). If we identify a child as having special education needs, we will inform their parent(s)/carer(s). If you consider that your child has special educational needs, please discuss this with your child’s class teacher.

If you have queries or concerns about SEND these should be discussed with your child’s class teacher in the first instance. Teachers may seek advice from our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), Mrs Maritza Agudelo. She works on Mondays and Wednesdays and can be contacted via the school office on 01491 202502. The school governor with responsibility for SEND is Sara Ogden and she may be contacted via the school office.
